Morocco Camel Trekking

The camel trek in Morocco’s Sahara desert is one of the most unforgettable experiences you can have while visiting the southern part of Morocco. This trek will take you on a breathtaking journey across a sea of sand.

Camel excursions are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Sahara desert and a must-do activity for anybody visiting. You’ll spend one or more nights in a desert camp or with a nomad family, learning about their way of life and daily routine.

If you have plenty of time in the desert area, riding a camel for several days and staying at one of the Oases or wild camping deep in the desert are both recommended activities. Although riding camels for several hours is not the most comfortable mode of transportation, it is unquestionably a “must” for any traveler interested in discovering the nomadic life.

The best and the most popular place for a Morocco camel trek is in the Erg Chebbi dunes, which are also known as golden dunes due to their orange color.

Without a doubt, spending the night in the Sahara desert should be on your bucket list while traveling to Morocco. Crossing the Sahara by a camel through its golden sands, watching the sun setting over the dunes, and sleeping in a desert camp under the millions of stars, is a lifetime experience not to be missed.

At Morocco Excursions, we provide different Morocco desert tours and camel trekking excursions and offer a variety of camping options. We have luxurious camps with private bathrooms on each tent and a deluxe camp with heating and air conditioning. The luxury camps are fully equipped with the necessary equipment to provide high-quality service and a comfortable stay.

Our standard camps are with private tents, a shared bathroom, beds, blankets, sheets, and everything else you’ll need for a comfortable stay. Each tent is decorated in a typical nomad style to give you a real nomad experience.

If you are looking for a real Sahara experience and live like a nomad for a few days, we recommend joining the wild camp trekking. You’ll be riding the camels deep into the middle of the dunes, far away from other camps and other tourists. Food, drink, small camping tents, sleeping bags, and a medium-size tent that will serve as a kitchen and restaurant will all be provided. The trek may last anywhere from one to four days, depending on the customer’s request.

For a different and unique experience, we also recommend wild desert safaris, staying with a local nomad family instead of a touristy camp. You’ll be riding the camels through the dunes to get to the other side of the desert, where the nomad families live. You’ll be discovering their unique way of living, and you’ll spend the night in their tent or mud house.
