Itinerary

Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Medilt - Errachidia - Ziz Valley - Merzouga

We'll pick you up at 8 a.m. and head to the desert, traversing the middle Atlas Mountains to Merzouga, passing via Ifrane on our way to the Azrou cedar forests, where the wild monkeys live. It will be an excellent opportunity to photograph the Moroccan wilderness. On the way, we'll stop for lunch in a small Berber village before continuing south through the Medilt sceneries to the small town of Rich, Errachidia, where we'll feel the start of the Saharan landscapes. We will have a stop at the panoramic view of Ziz Valley before continuing our journey towards Merzouga, where we will be spending our first night in a hotel.

Day 2: Merzouga - Nomad Families - Rocky Desert - Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi)

On a full adventure day today, we will visit several interesting places in the desert. Our first stop will be at the seasonal lake of Merzouga (If it's full of water during your visit) to enjoy its breathtaking view of the golden dunes in the background, as well as a blue sky full of birds such as the pink flamingos. We'll also visit Khamlia, a village known for its origin population from Mali and Sudan. After walking around, we'll stop with some locals who play Gnaoua music, a type of African percussion music. After that, we'll continue our safari to the village of M'fis, commonly known as the French village, where we will discover some mines of fossils. We'll keep driving over the stony desert until we reach a tiny mountain with a complete view of the dunes on the right and on the left, brown mountains which mark the Moroccan-Algerian border. Nearby, you'll find several fossilized water animals that lived millions of years ago in the area. We'll make our way to the last few nomad families in the desert. In addition, we will visit their tent and mud break home, learning about their daily routine and way of life. We will also get the opportunity to have lunch with them or in the shade of an acacia (desert tree) nearby. After lunch, we will be back to Merzouga for the camel trek into the dunes, where you will enjoy the sunset and spend the night in a camp. When you arrive at the desert camp, you'll be greeted with a cup of tea, checked into your tent, and given free time on the dunes to walk or try sandboarding. The local guide will play the drums (Berber music) around a bonfire after dinner. You'll have a great time dancing to the drum beats under millions of stars. Because of the hot temperatures and storms, the campfire is only during the winter months and when the weather is pleasant.

Merzouga - Middle Atlas - Fes

We will wake you up early in the morning to watch the magnificent sunrise (optional), then you will have breakfast and shower before the morning camel trip back to Merzouga, where you will meet your driver and begin the journey back to Fes via the same road as the first day, with stops for pictures and a break for a drink or lunch.
